As the revised UCP gave rise to a number of queries from letter of credit practitioners worldwide, this Opinions book, the first in four years, provides precise answers to the key questions raised.
“Each revision of the UCP brings with it a new set of questions, from practitioners. Even though many of the principles found in UCP 600 are similar to those found in UCP 500, there have been some basic changes reflected in the questions raised by users in the present volume. Among them are mew sections on definitions and interpretations, replacement of the term 'reasonable time’ with a maximum of five banking days for examining documents and re-drafted transport articles aimed at resolving confusion over the identification of carriers, masters and agents. These changes, along with the tendency of some banks to exclude certain of the revised UCP articles in their credits, have generated several of the Opinions in this book.”
